Camp Cove Beach- Watson Bay in Sydney

Camp Cove is one of the best beaches located adjacent to Sydney Harbour National Park. It has a clean sandy beach, clear waters, beautiful views and a little kiosk for snacks & drinks. Toilets are nearby and lifeguard services are available during the peak summer period. And if you prefer to sit and relax on shady grassed area, there's also the delightful Green Point Reserve to the left of the beach.

Camp Cove is also a popular scuba diving and fishing site - saw quite a few scuba divers plus fishing enthusiasts when I was there. On sunny days with colourful yachts racing in the blue ocean, it really makes for a very relaxing day at the beach. I rate Camp Cove as one of Sydney's hidden gems!

The area also has historical significance. A rock shelter at the northern end of the Camp Cove Beach shows evidence of habitation by the local Aboriginal people. Rock engravings in the area show a range of marine creatures like fishes and whales. Another interesting historical fact is that Governor Phillip and the First Fleet rested for a night in Camp Cove before arriving at Sydney Cove in 1788. In 1792, a fishery was set up nearby to help provide sustenance for the new settlement in Sydney Cove.
While you are here, you should take the South Head Heritage Walk which is located to the right of the beach (where the toilets are). It's an easy 470m loop track and along the way, you get to see stunning water views, cannon, gun emplacements, bushland, a lighthouse and even the lighthouse keeper's cottages! You also pass the beautiful Lady Bay Beach along the walk (but it is not recommended for families as nudity is permitted on this beach). There are fantastic photographic opportunities all along the trail and above are just a few samples for your viewing!
